Skipjack Tuna

Skipjack tuna (scientific name Katsuwonus pelamis), also known as stripe-bellied bonito, is an important pelagic migratory commercial fish belonging to the family Scombridae, found in tropical and subtropical oceans worldwide. It has a spindle-shaped body with 4-7 distinctive dark horizontal stripes on the lower sides, a bluish-purple back, and a silvery-white belly. Maximum length can reach 1 meter and weight up to 34.5 kg, with typical capture sizes ranging from 40 to 70 cm. Skipjack has firm, flavorful meat and is primarily used for canning, sashimi, and katsuobushi (dried bonito flakes). It accounts for the highest catch volume among all tuna species globally.
